Large snowflakes were coming down today as the Hakuba Happo-One Ski School hosted the Kids Ski Technique Competition along the Nakiyama 2 Pair Lift! Despite challenging conditions with the tracks in the fresh, wet snow creating a bumpy surface, the children gave it their all and showcased the results of their preparation.

I met a group of kids from Tokyo and Kanagawa (pictured), who told me, “We know Snownavi! We became friends while training together at the Hakuba Happo-One Ski School. Today, we’re aiming for victory!” Their parents added, “The Hakuba Happo-One Ski School offers a lot of different lessons and thorough instruction, which really helps the kids improve quickly.”

Earlier this morning on the Riesen Slalom Course, the firm, groomed wet snow surface was topped with 7 to 10 cm of fresh, wet snow. As tracks were laid, the surface quickly turned uneven and bumpy. Later, I met a group of four from Osaka who commented, “We always read your reports. The snow feels a bit heavy and is making it challenging to ski today.”

The Panorama Course (pictured) also had a firmly packed, groomed wet snow base covered in 7 to 8 cm of new, wet snow. The first one or two runs were fun as I carved through the fresh layer, but it quickly turned uneven and bumpy. Since today was Kids Ski Day, I saw many families with elementary school-aged children enjoying the slopes.
