Ninja REPORT

2025.03.16130 cm / Snowy

The wet snow that began to fall last night continued coming down this morning, carried by strong southerly winds. Due to the wind, the NINJA lift was temporarily suspended, and instead, the REWILD lift started operating at 8:30 a.m. A couple from Aichi Prefecture (pictured), who were the first to board the REWILD lift, shared, “We always use your site! The slopes feel a bit firm this morning.”

Later on I was greeted by members of the Shinshu Telemark Ski Association (pictured) who greeted me saying they were fans of Snownavi. The group leader explained, “We’re doing a ‘Traditional Telemark’ event, where we gather equipment from about 30 years ago — such as narrow skis and leather boots — to experience the challenges of the old days. It’s a bit of a masochistic project.” Some participants were even wearing “fish scale skis,” which have scale-like grooves on the soles for added grip.

I spoke with a family from Ueda City (pictured) who commented, “We always read your reports! We bought season passes for the whole family through Snownavi, and are planning to do the same again next season!” Since today marked the final Kids Ski Day of the season at Ninja, there were many families with elementary school children enjoying the slopes.

As for the slope conditions, Shinko (pictured) offered smooth and easy-to-ride conditions with a mix of wet snow and granular spring snow that had been well groomed. The ungroomed Nirei had a harder granular snow base. Meanwhile, Rewild (pictured, foreground) was covered with about 3 cm of moist new snow, creating firm, uneven terrain that made for a challenging ride.
