Happo-one REPORT

2025.03.18595 cm / Cloudy

A winter pressure pattern brought snow throughout the day yesterday, but it had stopped before dawn today, giving way to a mostly sunny morning with some clouds. The temperature at the top of the ski resort dropped to -8°C, creating a wintry scene with frost-covered trees. With no wind and the sun gradually warming things up, it became quite comfortable by the time the lifts opened.

The new snow meant that the Panorama Course had a moderately firm, groomed powder snow base once more! The powder made for a fantastic ride carving first tracks, and though I was tempted by the groomed slopes along the Kurobishi Quad, I instead headed to the ungroomed Urakuro area (pictured). Thanks to the snowfall over the past two days, the base was soft, and the 15 to 20 cm of fresh snow on top was light and fluffy, drawing cheers from skiers as they enjoyed the conditions.

The slopes along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured, right) and the central part of the Skyline Course had the same moderately firm, groomed packed powder as the Panorama Course. The groomed Kitaone Traverse Cat Track featured a moderately firm wet snow surface, which softened quickly in the sunlit areas. Meanwhile, the Sakka Wave, Sakka Slope, and Shirakaba Slope were covered in soft, groomed granular snow bases.

By the way, the 2nd Annual Yukimi Film Festival was held at Rhythm Wadano Hakuba on 3/15 (Sat.) and featured a total prize pool of ¥400,000 yen. Both Japanese and international guests gathered in large numbers (pictured), and by the 7 p.m. start time, the venue was packed with standing room only. All 15 films shown were impressive and well worth watching.
