A light layer of about 1 cm of fresh snow covered Sanosaka’s signature, meticulously well-groomed slopes. I spoke with a skier from Shiga Prefecture (pictured) who mentioned, “I always read your reports! I thought New Paradise would be fully groomed this morning, so I brought my carving skis, but it was ungroomed, so I’m heading back to my car to switch gear.”

Paradise (pictured), Lake Down, and Lake View had moderately soft, groomed wet snow surfaces with a powdery feel. I ran into two students from Chiba Prefecture (pictured), who shared, “We came to Hakuba for the first time using Orion Tour. The Sanosaka package was the most affordable, so that’s how we ended up here, haha.”

A skier from Nagano City (pictured) greeted me by saying, “I always follow your updates!” They continued, “There’s more new snow than I expected, and slope conditions are great.” The Carving Slope had a moderately firm groomed surface composed of a mix of granular snow and fresh snow. While there were slight differences in snow quality, all the groomers today were easy to ski on.

Later on, I finally had the pleasure of meeting one of Hakuba Sanosaka’s renowned grooming experts (pictured)! He told me, “I love Snownavi. I’m in charge of grooming Paradise. Today, the 20 cm or so of heavy fresh snow on New Paradise is making turns tough, but because the underlying base was too soft, I could only manage to groom the skier’s right side.”
