With the final operating day of the season for the No. 10 Pair Lift approaching on 3/23 (Sun.), the significant late-season snowfall seemed to be saying, “Head to the Sky View Slope!” Despite the mild temperature, strong north winds on Sky View carried densely falling snow, occasionally causing it to come down sideways.

As expected, the 15 to 20 cm of fresh snow was heavy! On top of that, the underlying surface was hard and uneven, making it extremely technical! To make matters worse, the heavy snow and fog made it difficult to distinguish details of the snow surface. While I was trying to figure out how to ski down with my camera in hand, an expert skier zoomed past me, shouting “Woooo!!” in excitement.

Because of the suspension of the No. 9 Pair that started on 1/10 (Fri.), I had the pleasure of enjoying the least crowded groomed run in Japan (according to my research), the Satomi Ridge Course, before heading to the Satomi Central Slope. Preparations for the “MORISHITA JINTAN 2025 Osaka Prefecture Hakunori Mogul Competition,” scheduled for 3/21 (Fri.) to 3/23 (Sun.), were underway, with the construction of the jump ramp (pictured) in progress.

The groomed Wakaguri Central Slope had a moderately firm, groomed surface composed of a mix of wet and granular snow, with 3 to 5 cm of heavier new snow on top. I spoke with a man from Nagano City (pictured, right) who shared, “I always read your reports! I’m giving a private lesson to the child of a friend who’s competing tomorrow. They’re too shy to show their face, though, haha!”
