REPORT

The spring skiing discount period began on 3/17 (Mon.), with one-day lift tickets priced at ¥5,000 for adults and ¥2,500 for elementary school children. I spoke with a couple from Kobe City (pictured) who shared, “We always read your reports! We wanted to try the new gondola, so we left home last night and traveled for about 7 hours to get here. Tomorrow, we’ll meet our daughter from Tokyo at Hakuba Goryu.”

The snow that began falling late last night was still coming down lightly this morning, and thick fog was rolling in and out on the Mountain Side. The East Slope (pictured) had a well-packed, groomed wet snow surface with 10 to 12 cm of fluffy fresh snow on top, and I enjoyed the feeling of smooth powder turns.

The South Slope also had about 10 cm of fresh snow covering a firm groomed base composed of a mix of granular snow and freshly fallen snow. The top of the Sunny Valley Course (pictured) had a light layer of 10 cm of fresh snow covering a well-packed, groomed granular snow base, and the new snow became more damp towards the middle and end of the course as I made my way down.

I had a conversation with a couple from Matsumoto (pictured) who told me, “We love Snownavi! We were really hoping for powder today, and we’re definitely glad we came. The snow on the upper part of the resort was really light and great. The groomed slopes are also in great condition.” There was about 3 cm of light new snow on top of the well-packed, groomed wet snow bases on the early part of VIEW C and VIEW D, while the middle and end sections had 10 to 15 cm of light new snow covering firm, groomed granular snow surfaces.
