This morning, I met a skier from Shizuoka who shared, “Seeing the frost-covered trees and pure white slopes during the nice drive here convinced me that today was going to be a great day. It’s absolutely amazing to enjoy these conditions in late March.” The pleasant sunny weather following a snowfall combined with the effects of overnight radiative cooling created stunning frost formations across the mid-to-upper areas of the ski resort (pictured).

Powder conditions have made a comeback at Alps Daira! My edges gripped the well-packed, groomed powder snow base of the Grand Prix Course (pictured) perfectly. Meanwhile, the ungroomed Technical Course, and the areas along the Alps 3rd and 4th Pairs (pictured, background) had about 5cm of fresh, fluffy snow over a moderately soft base.

The Panorama Course also featured a perfectly packed, groomed powder snow surface in top condition. The upper section of Route 8 had similar groomed powder conditions with about 3 to 4 cm of fluffy fresh snow on top. Sliding down to the Dynamic Course, the firmly groomed wet snow base had a layer of 1 to 5 cm of moist new snow.

Can you see it? The “IIMORI Mogul Festival” was taking place midway along the 6th Pair on the Powder Snow Course. On the Toomi Slope, the base was a flat, moderately firm mix of granular and fresh snow. Meanwhile, on the Powder Snow Course and Soft Cream Course, the fine-grained spring snow surface was starting to soften slightly under the sunlight.
