There was almost no wind at the base area this morning, but the high clouds above moved quickly, alternately hiding and revealing the sun. The groomed Ikenota Slope (pictured) and Ipponmatsu Course had moderately firm bases composed of a mix of granular and wet snow. Both edge grip and board glide were excellent, making for a comfortable and enjoyable ride.

I met a mother from Tokyo who shared, “Tonight will be our second and last night at Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba. My daughter (pictured) is really into tubing and will be spending the whole day here.” When I asked her daughter what was her favorite food at the evening dinner buffet, she excitedly answered, “The French fries!”

I also spoke with a man from Matsumoto (pictured) told me, “I always read your reports! Today, I’m planning to ski from Uchu to Minami-Otari Station.” I then watched as he continued across the snowfield with climbing skins attached to his skis. The groomed Rabbit Course and Snake Course featured moderately firm bases that were a mix of wet snow and a little bit of granular snow, providing smooth conditions that made for easy skiing.

The snow surface of the Warabidaira Slope (pictured) was firm in the morning, but had softened by 10 a.m., turning into slushy spring snow. A couple from Tokyo, who waved at me while riding the 6th Pair lift (pictured), commented, “The weather is great, and it feels wonderful to be on the slopes!” In fact, the weather forecast is predicting sun throughout the weekend!
