Akakura Kanko REPORT

2025.03.18380 cm / Sunny

The Champion A Course is a Myoko highlight that I aim to visit at least three times each season! While the specs—32° maximum slope and 17° average slope—might seem ordinary at first glance, the 1,200m distance makes it a truly satisfying course to ski. Thanks to the snow that fell from late morning yesterday into the early hours of today, it was the perfect day for skiing this morning!

Since the Champion No. 1 Quad is no longer available, there are two ways to access the Champion A Course: either via the gondola and the Joshi Kokutai Course (pictured) or by traversing from Akakura Onsen’s Yodel No. 1Triple. This morning, looking at the pristine white slope and trees covered in fresh snow, my excitement was through the roof!

The Champion A Course had moderately firm, shallow wet snow moguls with about 10cm of damp, fresh snow on top, for overall hard conditions. Midway through the course, near the junction connecting to the Akakura Onsen area (pictured), the slope had a pleasantly soft, groomed wet snow base. After a run under the warm sun, I found myself working up a sweat!

Rewinding back to first thing this morning, the Hotel Beginner Course (pictured) had a groomed base composed of a mix of wet snow with a little bit of granular snow mixed in. I spoke with a man from Saitama (picture, right) who shared, “I bought my season pass from Snownavi! Today, after skiing a few runs with my friends, I’ll hike up the mountain a bit and ski down.” His friend (pictured, left) added, “I bought early bird lift tickets from Snownavi, too! I bought so many that now I’m wondering if I’ll be able to use them all before the season ends!”

During the spring season, from 3/24 (Mon.) to 5/6 (Tue., holiday), five lifts will be in operation: Hotel No. 5 Triple (until 3/30), Hotel No. 2 Quad (until 4/1), Hotel No. 1 Quad (until 4/5), Hotel No. 3 Quad, and the Myoko Kogen Sky Cable.
