REPORT

The season at Hakuba Sanosaka Ski Resort is down to its final two days, today and tomorrow. Early this morning, I spoke with a pair of sisters from Hamamatsu (pictured) who shared, “It’s our first time skiing in five years. We’re using Orion Tour and staying in the Omachi Onsen area tonight. Being at Sanosaka brings back wonderful childhood memories of skiing here with our parents.”

The day started with a hazy, but sunny, spring-like sky, and temperatures were already above freezing by the time operations began. A skier from Tokyo (pictured, left) commented, “I’ve been a season pass holder at Hakuba Sanosaka for 25 years—this place is my life!” Meanwhile, a resort staff member (pictured, right) added, “I always check your reports. Today’s my day off, so I’m going to ski as much as I can!”

I also had a chat with a father from Azumino (pictured) who told me, “The slopes here are wide, which make it easy to ski for myself and for my kids. We absolutely love Hakuba Sanosaka! Plus, the JPY1,000 lift ticket for elementary school kids is a great deal.” Paradise had a moderately soft, groomed granular snow surface, while both Lake Down and Lake View were groomed with loose spring corn snow.

I also crossed paths with a group from Aichi and Gifu (pictured) who told me, “We always check your reports! We gathered here to take part in AZ Snowboarding School’s AZ Thanksgiving Festival. With so much snow left, it’s such a shame the season is ending tomorrow.” Thank you all for following our slope reports this season and for greeting me and posing for me even when you may have just wanted to keep skiing! I’m looking forward to seeing you again next season!
