With a full roster of 200 participants, the 25th Annual Takamine Mountain Park Ski Technique Championship took place on 3/23 (Sun.)! Before the opening ceremony, I had the chance to speak with members of Team Asama. They shared, “We always read your reports! This year marks our team’s 10th anniversary, and our member, Harumi Koike (BIB No.2), in the Senior Women’s class, is aiming for her third consecutive class victory!” The excitement and anticipation were high as the competition got underway.

The competition was judged based on the total score from five judges, with the highest and lowest scores excluded, across three events: “Wide Turns,” “Tight Turns,” and “Free Run.” The Diving Course served as the venue and featured spring-like soft, groomed granular snow. Each event began after a demonstration run by special guest skiers—Yoshiyuki Kashiwagi, Moriyuki Fujii, Keiichi Yaegashi, Ayaka Ikebe, and Wakana Takahashi (in no particular order, titles omitted). The well-prepared course and strong demo performances set the stage for an exciting competition.

Under calm and sunny skies, the groomed Panorama (pictured), Central, Sunshine, Beginners, and Antelope courses all started out with soft granular snow conditions, just like the Diving Course. The Panorama and Central courses were particularly popular with athletes warming up before their competition runs.
