Hakuba Norikura REPORT

The Satomi area (Satomi Central, Satomi Ridge, Sky View, and Satomi Wakaguri Access Line) wrapped up operations for the season, and the popular snow buggy service also came to an end. From 3/24 (Mon.) to 3/30 (Sun.), the No. 1 Pair, No. 3 High-Speed Pair, No. 4 Pair, and No.5 High-Speed Pair will be in operation, with a total of six slopes open: Hakunori Family, Highway, Kamoshika, Snake, Rabbit, and Wakaguri Central!

It was a pleasant morning with a light westerly breeze blowing under an overcast sky. Access to the lower section of the Highway Course (pictured) is being restricted today and tomorrow due to the “1st Annual Student ALL STAR GAME” event. My skis glided smoothly on the moderately firm, groomed granular snow bases of the Highway and Kamoshika slopes, where the surface layer had begun to soften slightly.

I spoke with a father from Saitama (pictured, right), who was skiing with his friend’s children from Nagano City, who shared, “I always use Snownavi! We’ve been looking out for you while skiing, so it’s great to finally meet you! We’re here for a two-night stay and have been skiing at Hakunori since the day before yesterday.” The loose, groomed corn snow surface on the Rabbit Course eventually became more slushy.

I had a conversation with a mother from Kyoto (pictured, left) who commented, “I always read your reports. My sons participated in the mogul competition that ended yesterday. The younger one (pictured, right) didn’t make it to the finals due to a mistake in the qualifiers, but the older one finished in 11th place.” The Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured, background) featured a nice and soft, groomed granular snow surface that made for smooth skiing.
