We’re down to the final week of the winter season at Hakuba Cortina Ski Resort. This morning, I spoke with some students from Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “We’re staying at Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba for one night tonight and are going to have fun snowboarding. Some members of our group have been here before, and the delicious food and spacious onsen were so great that we all decided to come out.” It was a warm and pleasant morning with overcast skies.

Starting today, 3/24 (Mon.), only the 1st Pair, 2nd Quad, and 4th Pair lifts are operating, allowing access to six slopes: Ipponmatsu, Ikenota, Ikenota Forest, Mt. Hieda Forest, Mt. Hieda 1, and Itadaira. The groomed Ikenota Course (pictured) had soft, slushy spring snow conditions right from the start of the day. I enjoyed cruising down the wide open slopes early in the morning with no crowds.

The Ikenota Slope (pictured), Ikenota Forest Course, and Itadaira Slope were all groomed with soft, slushy spring snow. The Mt. Hieda Forest Course, however, felt slightly firmer compared to the other groomed slopes. On the ungroomed Mt. Hieda 1, the snow was slushy and marked with large, irregular bumps and tracks across its surface.

At the Cornice Café, located at the base of Ikenota Slope (pictured), the recommended hot sandwiches, all made with natural yeast bread, include options like Chicken & Cheese (¥1,450) and Ham & Cheese (¥1,400). They also offer hot drinks like Black Coffee (JPY500) and beer (JPY550). The café will be open until the last day of the season on 3/30 (Sun.), from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
