The two major courses at Yakebitaiyama are the Giant Slalom Course (pictured) and the Olympic Course. Despite the forecasted arrival of Asian Dust today and tomorrow, I was surprised to find that the snow at Yakebi this morning was still white! I enjoyed skiing down the groomed Giant Slalom Course, feeling the cool breeze as I glided along.

The course was covered with well-set granular snow that was perfectly groomed, and I enjoyed a long run of roughly 2.2 km, adjusting the rhythm of my turns to match the changes in the slope angle and direction. A couple from Osaka (pictured) greeted me, saying, “We always use Snownavi!” They added, “Has the Asian Dust arrived? We can’t even tell. The conditions are really easy to ski on.”

As time passed, the sky started to grow hazy. A skier I met on the No. 1 Gondola (pictured) shared, “I skied the Olympic Course first thing this morning. It felt great.” The Olympic Course, like the Giant Slalom, offered smooth and easy-to-ski conditions, allowing skis to glide effortlessly.

By around 10 a.m., the soft snow surface had turned into a slushy texture. On the slopes with less angle, I started to feel that my skis weren’t gliding as well, so I cleaned the bottoms of my skis before heading back to the parking lot. The Spring Ski Season at the Yakebiyama Ski Resort will begin on 3/31 (Mon.), and the No. 1 and No.2 Gondolas will start operating at 6 a.m. starting on 4/5 (Sat.).
