Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2025.03.26320 cm / Partly Cloudy

The first good news to report is that the ski season at Hakunori has been extended until 4/6 (Sun.), surpassing even last season! And, not only that, but there’s also plenty going on right up to the very end, including Hakuba Heli-Skiing, the Slushark experience, and the exclusive SUNRISE & FIRST TRACK event for overnight hotel guests. The Cross Course (pictured), Mogul Course, Aqua Oasis, Arai Rental, and Snowdrop, where you can savor seafood from the Sea of Japan, will also remain open until 4/6 (Sun.).

A couple from Ogawa Village (pictured) greeted me saying they were Snownavi fans, before the husband (pictured, right foreground) added, “I’m a chef at Hotel La Vigne Hakuba. We just opened in December, and with the hotel being nearly fully booked for the season, I had no time to rest—so today is my first day on the slopes!”
[Wakaguri Central Slope]

This morning, the Wakaguri Central Slope and Rabbit Course had firm, groomed spring corn snow surfaces that made for smooth and fast runs. A mother from Kyoto (pictured, background), whom I met working on a previous report, greeted me again, saying, “I always read your reports! Since last weekend’s competition ended, I’ve been helping maintain the mogul course (pictured). This is my son (pictured, front), who placed 11th in the competition.”
[Highway Course]

The upper section of the Highway Course (pictured), which was left ungroomed and had moguls composed of soft spring snow, while the groomed lower section offered a a slightly slushy granular snow base. The strong winds that started late last night continued into the morning, making me wonder if the lifts would be delayed or suspended. However, in the end, the No. 4 Pair and No. 5 High-Speed Pair lifts started right on schedule at 8:30 a.m., and the No. 3 High-Speed Pair followed around 9:00 a.m. Come to think of it, Hakunori usually does seem to hold up well against the wind!
