As we move further into the spring season, the roads are no longer icy, driving is fun and stress-free, you can enjoy corn snow groomers in the morning, have a leisurely lunch at the base, and then head out to see the cherry blossoms. Incidentally, the cherry blossoms around Matsumoto Castle are expected to start blooming on 4/4 (Fri.), with full bloom predicted around 4/11 (Fri.). Skies were calm and temperatures were pleasantly warm this morning, a stark contrast to yesterday’s strong winds.

The surfaces of the Oya-no-hara and Karamatsu slopes had softened, with loose granular snow grooming that was easy to carve on. The slopes had a lively and friendly atmosphere, with families and groups of beginners enjoying the spring conditions. A mother from Tokyo shared, “Three generations of our family came out to ski together. Right now, grandpa is giving my child (pictured, back left) a serious ski lesson!”

The top of the Han-no-Ki Slope (pictured) had a moderately soft, groomed granular snow base, while the mid to lower sections featuring a loose, granular surface (pictured). I spoke with a father from Fukuoka (pictured, left) who shared, “This is my first time skiing at Tsugaike, and I flew in for this trip. The soft snow makes for an easy and enjoyable ride!”

I ran into the owener of steak restaurant NIKU-Masa (pictured), who epitomized the mellow morning vibe. He reminded me that he’s a fan of Snownavi, and added, “The weather is really warm this morning.” In fact, the forecast is calling for summer-like temperatures, reaching 25°C in Nagano City and 24°C in Matsumoto City—typical highs for mid-May to early June. Meanwhile, at Tsuga-no-mori, the course for the “BANKED SLALOM TGK” event on 4/5 (Sat.) has been completed and is now open to the public.
