Iwatake REPORT

2025.03.27300 cm / Sunny

Yesterday, strong winds delayed the start of gondola and other lifts until around 1 p.m. This morning, however, brought calm, sunny weather with clear views of the Northern Alps (pictured). Two visitors I met from Tokyo shared, “We always check your reports! We woke up at 3 a.m. to come out and ski for the day. It’s way too warm, but we’re having fun riding the remnants of the banked slalom course!”

The slopes were covered in soft, groomed corn snow from the gondola summit station all the way down to the base, with the surface marked by deeply carved tracks in some areas. With the new gondola providing a faster ride to the top this season, I felt once again that the Sunny Valley Course (pictured) has become much easier to lap.

The official base depth on the lower slopes remains a respectable 100 cm, but around the beginning of the former Paradise Slope, where both sun and wind exposure are high, rapid snowmelt from the warm winds between 3/21 (Fri.) and 3/26 (Wed.) has caused some ground to be exposed. Meanwhile, the main section of the Sunny Valley Course (pictured) was perfectly groomed and offered smooth skiing with no issues.

I ran into a family from Gifu (pictured) who told me they were fans of Snownavi, and added, “This is actually our first time at Iwatake. The scenery is beautiful, so we’re going to head to HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR later.” The groomed spring snow on VIEW C and VIEW D had a somewhat firmer feel in the shaded areas, while the rest remained soft and slushy.
