Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2025.03.27300 cm / Sunny

This morning, I had a conversation with a Hakuba Norikura Ski School instructor (pictured, second from right) who said, “I always read your reports! These are international students participating in an event organized by the Hakuba Rotary Club. Some of them put on skis for the first time yesterday, and by the end of the day, they were already able to ski!” One of the students added, “It’s so much fun now that I can ski! I want to keep going!”

Skies were sunny and the temperature was rising quickly today. I met a snowboarder living in Hakuba Village who commented, “I always read your reports. It’s so warm today, so I’m skiing in short sleeves.” It felt great to glide along on the soft, spring-like slushy groomers of the Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured) and Rabbit Course. I enjoyed a bit of speed while also soaking in the spring atmosphere.

The latter half of the groomed Highway Course and the Kamoshika Course had soft and slushy snow similar to the Wakaguri Central Slope. The ungroomed first half of the Highway Course featured softened, loose snow covering the uneven terrain and bumps. The mogul course on the latter half of Highway was well-maintained (pictured), and had moderately sized moguls that offered a fun challenge.

Walking on the Hakunori Family Course was Mary, the dog of Mr. Zama (pictured) from Hakuba’s “Tetsu Kobo Mura-no-kajiya.” He greeted me saying he follows Snownavi, and added, “My dog Mary has been struggling with the heat and won’t run anymore.” Afterwards, Mary grabbed her own leash in her mouth, and made her way back to the car.
