In the past week, since 3/21 (Fri.), we’ve faced all four major challenges of spring skiing: spring storms, Asian Dust, the Foehn Phenomenon, and rain. In other words, there’s nothing left to fear! The rain from last night had mostly stopped by around 8:30 a.m., with only a bit of drizzle remaining. There were glimpses of sunlight, and a sea of clouds was also visible (pictured).

On the Panorama Course (pictured) and Riesen Slalom Course, the moderately soft, groomed corn snow allowed for smooth turns and fast runs—just the kind of conditions you’d expect on a rainy day. Later on, a thin layer of fog occasionally drifted over the mid-to-upper sections of the resort, but it didn’t affect the skiing.

I ran into a skier from Tokyo (pictured) who shared, “I always follow your reports! Today marks my 90th day on the slopes this season. Rainy days make for smooth, fast runs, and with so few people out, I can carve exactly where I want—it’s a blast!” On the ungroomed southern route of Usagidaira (4th photo), the base was uneven and marked with occasional moguls, while the area along the Alpen Quad lift (pictured, center), had medium-to-large moguls formed across the surface.

The second round of entries is now open for the HAPPO BANKED SLALOM event set to take place on the Panorama Course on 4/12 (Sat.). Additionally, the HAPPO SPRING FESTIVAL will be held at the OAKLEY TERRACE on 4/6 (Sun.). Conditions today featured nice and soft, corn snow grooming on the run along the Kurobishi Quad and the Skyline Course, while the Kitaone Traverse Cat Track was groomed with slushy spring snow. The Sakka Wave and Shirakaba Slope had slightly drier, groomed granular snow bases.

*Foehn Phenomenon: This occurs when warm air flows toward a low-pressure system on the Sea of Japan side, the resulting warm, dry wind blowing down from the mountains significantly increases temperatures in the surrounding areas.
*The Grat Quad Lift will be closed on 3/27 (Thu.) and 3/28 (Fri.) for snow removal under the lift line.
*The planned final day of operation for each lift can be found here.
*The shuttle bus schedule will change for the period from 3/24 (Mon.) to 3/30 (Sun.).
*The toilets at Happo-ike Sanso and Pilar are currently unavailable due to a water supply issue.
