Tsugaike REPORT

2025.03.28306 cm / Rainy

The rain that started falling last night gradually weakened and there were occasional glimpse of blue sky around 8:30 a.m. However, steady rain began to fall again later on. I ran into a digger from TG PARKS (pictured) who commented, “Great work out there! The recent snowmelt has reduced the size of the kickers, but they should still be easy to jump off.”

That same digger showed off an impressive, high-flying trick on the 14m kicker (pictured), and even though I’m usually pretty quiet and composed, I couldn’t help but shout, “Wooooowwww!!” By the way, the competition course for the BANKED SLALOM TGK event on the Tsuga-no-mori Slope is open to the public until 4/3 (Thu).

I headed to Tsuga-no-mori (pictured) to check out the competition course, only to find myself mired in thick fog. In fact, the banked slalom course I went there to capture was completely invisible. I overheard someone saying, “It feels like there’s no one here. It’s like a private run, haha!” On the soft, slushy bases of Tsuga-no-mori and Han-no-ki, putting weight into my edges kicked up sprays of granular snow.

There was a net closing off the gentle slope connecting Champion and Shirakaba. A ski patroller explained, “Due to the large amount of rain at the upper part of the ski area, we’ve closed off this area as a safety measure.” The groomed Karamatsu and Oya-no-hara slopes offered wet granular snow that allowed for fast skiing despite the gentle gradients.
