Tsugaike REPORT

2025.03.29300 cm / Snow Clouds

A cold air mass moving south brought a drop in temperature and some fresh snowfall to the area. This morning I crossed paths with three families from Hyogo, Kyoto, and Kanagawa (pictured) who shared, “We always check your reports! We’re here for spring break, and have been skiing since Thursday. The kids are using the NSD Kids Program. Earlier, we ran into the Gundam team and got a photo with them!”

I later ran into the Gundam performance team (pictured) and was told, “Thanks for your hard work. We have a good showing of mobile suits today!” This season, they’ve been spotted frequently at Nozawa, Ikenotaira, and Sugadaira. Meanwhile, on the slopes, the Shirakaba Slope had 5 to 7 cm of fresh, light snow on top of hard, groomed corn snow base.

Starting at 9:30 a.m., the “Yukiyama-zuki Atsumetemita!” event took place in front of the Yuki-no-hiroba plaza around the gondola mid-station, with a snowball fight tournament as the main attraction. The outdoor booth area featured snowboard demo events by UKIYO and SIGNAL, as well as a buyback service from BOOKOFF. The opening ceremony included a “rajio taiso” calisthenics session led by the Gundam team, and participants received a special sticker afterward.

The Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) had the same conditions as Shirakaba, with a firm groomed granular snow base topped with 5 to 7 cm of light fresh snow. However, this area was covered in thick fog, and I overheard skiers and snowboarders exclaiming, “Everything’s white!” and “I can’t see a thing!” The snow flurries that had been falling gradually slowed down and stopped by around 9 a.m.
