Hakuba Cortina Ski Resort has reached its final weekend of the season. “This season brought plenty of snowfall and many visitors, including international guests, so we were kept very busy,” said a member of the ski patrol I spoke with (pictured, on the snowmobile in the background). Looking back, the resort was blessed with significant early snow from 12/6 (Fri.) to 12/9 (Mon.), and by mid-February, it had recorded a remarkable 460 cm base depth—one of the highest in recent years.

With cold air pushing south once more, temperatures dropped again this morning, bringing a dusting of moist snow. I met a group of three snowboarders from Aichi (pictured), who told me, “We heard Cortina is famous, so we came out for a day trip. The fresh snow has us excited!” On the Ikenota Slope (pictured), about 5 cm of fresh, damp snow had settled over the moderately soft groomed corn snow base.

A light fog covered the upper slopes, which, combined with the frost-coated trees, created a magical scene. Visitors stepping off the 4th Pair lift could be heard admiring the beauty, with comments like, “It’s so pretty.” About 5 cm of slightly moist new snow topped the well-packed groomed corn snow base of the Mt. Hieda Forest Course (pictured), providing smooth and fast conditions.

There was around 5 cm of moist fresh snow on the hard groomed granular snow base of the Itadaira and Ipponmatsu Courses (pictured) as well. I had a chat with some instructors from the Cortina Ski School (pictured) who commented, “We always check your reports! This season was a huge success for the ski school. Thank you so much everyone. We’re glad to be wrapping up the season safely tomorrow, and are already looking forward to seeing everyone again next season!” This marks our final resort report for Cortina this season. Thank you all for following along, and we truly appreciate your support throughout the winter!
