This morning, wet snow was coming down hard across the resort. The 6th Annual Akakura Technical Championship takes place tomorrow, 3/30 (Sun.), on the final day of the season, and today the preparatory camp was being held. An Instructor from the Myoko-san Snowboard School (pictured, 5th from left), who are organizing the event, called out to their students, “Snownavi is going to take our photo! Everyone, strike a pose!”

The Akakura Technical Championship will take place on the south side of the middle section of the Panorama Course (pictured), and today’s camp was also held there on the same course. The Panorama Course, Family Slope, and Karamatsu Course each had hard-packed groomed granular snow surfaces that were topped with 5 to 10 cm of slightly heavy new snow.

Around 10 a.m., the falling snow eased up, and the fog gradually cleared. The trees at the top of the ski resort were coated in rime ice, and the landscaped was blanketed in white, almost as if we had gone from spring back to winter. Both the Utopia A and B Courses, with 5 to 15 cm of slightly heavy new snow, featured moderately firm, groomed granular snow bases.

I had the pleasure of running into an Akakura regular snow scoot rider (pictured) whom I met time and again during the season. They commented, “The season is finally coming to an end. I’ll be here on the slopes until the last day tomorrow!” This marks the final report for the Akakura Onsen ski resort this season. Thank you very much for following along!
