On this final day of the winter season, 3/30 (Sun.), a “Wine Tasting Gondola” event (free of charge) kicked off at 10:00 a.m. One 10-person gondola cabin was reserved for the event, allowing participants to sample two types of wine during the approximately seven-minute ride from the base station to the summit. This unique experience offered the chance to enjoy wine while taking in the breathtaking views that Iwatake is known for through the new gondola’s expansive glass windows.

I spoke with two participants (first photo) who shared their thoughts, saying, “Drinking wine in such an open and relaxing space was fantastic! The gondola was smooth and quiet, allowing us to enjoy a great conversation with the sommelier (Masayoshi Kaneda from the Italian restaurant Bricca).” Meanwhile, both the South and East Slopes (pictured) offered moderately firm, groomed corn snow that was easy to ride in the early morning.

The groomed granular snow bases on VIEW C and VIEW D were moderately firm up top, while the bottom halves had already begun to soften. And, once again, we were truly blessed with snow this season! You can get a sense of how much snow there still is on courses like Sunny Valley, but the impressive snow coverage at the end of VIEW C (pictured) was particularly striking.

Rewinding back to the early morning—light snow was falling as I met a group of five visitors from Hyogo, Osaka, Aichi, and Tokyo (pictured). They shared, “We always check your reports! We’re a snowboarding crew that gathers from different regions every week. This season, we’ve had an amazing time riding at Iwatake.” By around 10 a.m., the falling snow had intensified, and fog began to settle over the Mountain Side.
