Happo-one REPORT

2025.03.31420 cm / Partly Sunny

As a result of the cold spell that returned to the area on the night of 3/28 (Fri.), the trees across the upper areas of the resort were covered with frost. “Everything’s white again after the fresh snow over the weekend,” commented a snowboarder I rode the Alpen Quad with. Under a shifting sky of sun and clouds, the morning air felt crisp due to the effects of radiative cooling.

The groomed snow along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) was an easy-to-ski mix of granular snow and new snow. I was impressed by the Hakuba Happo-One Ski School instructor (third photo) and other advanced skiers carving precise turns as they made their way down the slopes. The ungroomed area along the Kurobishi 3 Pair had a hard packed uneven surface with some moguls, while the Alpen Quad area featured medium to large-sized moguls.

Yesterday, 3/30 (Sun.), the end of operations for the Sakka Kitaone Quad, Kokusai 1 Pair, Shirakaba 1 Pair, and Sakka 2 Pair resulted in the closure of the Kitaone Course, Sakka Slope, Central Course, and Olympic Course I. As such, Happo-One is now “mostly open” (over 50% of terrain is still skiable) as of today. Access to the resort’s base areas (Nakiyama and Shirakaba) is still possible, but limited to Riesen and Olympic Course II.

The Panorama Course was groomed, with a mix of granular and fresh snow. The Riesen Slalom Course (pictured) had moderately soft corn snow, which became even softer as I skied down further and further. Meanwhile, the Shirakaba Slope was covered with a rough, groomed granular snow base.
