Light snow began falling around 7 a.m., but had stopped by 8:30. In the morning, I met a couple from Aichi, who told me “We’re staying at the Hakuba Alps Hotel. We wanted to join the guest-only First Tracks event, but we couldn’t wake up in time. Either way, Hakunori is quiet and conditions are great.” It was a peaceful weekday morning with few visitors at the start.

The groomed Highway Course, Kamoshika Course, and Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured) had soft, easy-to-ski, groomed corn snow surfaces that made for smooth riding. The Hakunori Cross Course, which had similar conditions, provided a fun change of pace with its banks and waves. The gentle layout makes it accessible for everyone to enjoy.

The Rabbit Course, like Wakaguri Central, had a soft corn snow base and smooth skiing. It was impressive to watch the advanced skiers descending quickly from Rabbit to Wakaguri Central, then heading straight back up on the No. 5 High-Speed Pair Lift (1,130m) for another lap.

I met some of the Hakunori staff first thing this morning. One of them (pictured, front center) told me, “Today is our day off, and we’re going to enjoy it. Our final day of work varies, but I’ll be working until the last day. Please be sure to come back and ski with us next season! We’ll be waiting for you at the lift station!” With that comment it feels like the final report of the season, but I’ll still be providing updates in April!
