This morning, light rain began to fall around 7:30 a.m. “We always check your reports! Anyone skiing this time of year must be a bit crazy… oh wait, that includes us!” joked a group of three from Osaka and Kyoto whom I met at the gondola Line-8 base station. Route 1 (pictured) had slushy groomed corn snow that helped me pick up speed and enjoy a smooth ride!

My skis were gliding smoothly, the view looking down at the valley was stunning (pictured), and with the slopes relatively empty, my excitement kept building despite the light rain (guess that makes me a bit crazy too?). Routes 5 and 6 also had slushy, soft, easy-to-ride groomed corn snow bases. Meanwhile, the lower section of Route 1, with its slushy surface marked with irregular tracks, offered the perfect conditions for practicing short turns on uneven terrain.

The skier’s left side of Route 8 currently features a banked slalom course. I spoke with two smiling instructors from the HAKUBA47 Snowboard School (pictured), who told me, “The course is open to the public until 4/4 (Fri.), so feel free to come out and have some fun! Also, same-day entries for the competition on 4/6 (Sun.) will be accepted.” They were referring to the Hakuba47 Snow Challenge 2025 Banked Slalom 3rd event taking place on 4/6 (Sun.)!

I also caught up with the dad of a snowboarder turning tricks on the advanced lane’s kickers (pictured), who said, “This spring, I’ve been coming here with my son, who will soon be starting junior high school. The lift along the park allows us to lap it at a good pace. The park features are well-maintained too, so I think it’s easy to hit the jumps.” As the raindrops collected on my goggles, my excitement grew even more. (Yep, I’m definitely crazy.)
