April brings ideal circumstances—there’s plenty of snow on the slopes while the roads at the base are free of snow and ice. It’s also the time when you can consider switching from studless to normal tires. This morning, with light rain beginning around 7:30 a.m. and more rain forecasted for the day, visitors were noticeably slow to turnout.

The groomed area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) and the Skyline Course had soft spring corn snow that provided great glide. Small, soft to medium-sized moguls marked the surface along the Kurobishi 3 Pair (pictured, background), while the moguls paralleling the Alpen Quad were large. A skier from Kyoto shared, “I always check your reports! I’ll be skiing here all the way through Golden Week!”

I met a couple from Tokyo (pictured) who told me they were fans of Snownavi, and added “We come to Happo four to five times a season. The snow is getting slushy, but it’s still easy to ski.” In other news, the HAPPO SPRING FESTIVAL will take place at the OAKLEY TERRACE on 4/6 (Sun.), and will feature a talk show and prize giveaway with Olympic athletes Akito and Yoshito Watabe, as well as Aiko Uemura!

The Panorama Course (pictured), Riesen Slalom Course, and the southern route of Usagidaira all had groomed corn snow surfaces that had begun to soften. By the way, the first floor of Sun Terrace Panorama (pictured, center) will remain open until 4/6 (Sun.), while the second floor closed on 3/31. Cafeteria YETI, Restaurant & Café Pilar, and Cafeteria Kurobishi will continue operating until 5/6 (Tue., holiday).
