Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2025.04.05215 cm / Sunny

We’re heading into the final two days of the season with over 200 cm of snow still on the ground! We’ve already heard from the staff in reports from 3/30 (Sun.), 4/1 (Tue.), and 4/3 (Thu.), so all that’s left is for you—the visitors—to help bring this season to a close in style. Before the lifts opened this morning, I spoke with a group of six guests from Osaka, Gifu, Tokyo, and the town of Ikeda (pictured) who told me, “We always read your reports. Having the Alps No. 3 High-Speed Pair (pictured) start running at 8:00 a.m. this season was the absolute best!”

The Highway Course (pictured) and Kamoshika Course both had moderately soft groomed granular snow from the start, which meant my edges sank deep into the surface, but I was still able to make smooth, enjoyable turns. What stood out the most though, was the stunning view of the pure white Northern Alps to the south! Early in the morning, the cold air caused by radiative cooling felt refreshing, but by around 9 a.m., the strong sun had warmed things up to the point where it started to feel a bit hot.

I crossed paths with a father from Gifu Prefecture (pictured), who said, “I always read your reports! I’m a season pass holder for Hakunori & Cortina. This season, I’ve been staying in a camper van and skiing for about 45 days. My daughters have now learned to ski and are absolutely loving it!” His daughters added, “We love the Cross Course! It’s so much fun!” The Rabbit Course (pictured) and Wakaguri Central Slope had loose groomed granular snow surfaces.

“Hakuba Heli-Skiing” tours are currently running until 5/6 (Tue., holiday). Heli-skiing allows you to take a helicopter up to an altitude of 2,120 meters, near Tenguhara, and ski or snowboard down a natural, ungroomed slope around 2 kilometers in length. There’s also a “Picnic Plan” where you can enjoy coffee and snacks amidst the great outdoors, and a “Scenic Flight Plan” offering stunning views from above Mt. Hakunori. Anyway, thank you very much for reading our Hakunori slope reports this season and for cooperating for photos! We look forward to seeing you again next season!
