Tsugaike REPORT

2025.04.07287 cm / Partly Sunny

Over the last three Sundays—3/23, 3/30, and 4/6—many ski resorts across the country have wrapped up their season, and the number of resorts still open has dropped below 50. However, Tsugaike Mountain Resort remains “mostly open,” with 50% or more of its terrain still open, and skiing is still possible from top to bottom! This morning brought pleasant, overcast skies with occasional sunlight breaking through the clouds.

The Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) and the upper section of the Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) had moderately firm, groomed granular snow bases this morning. “I came to Tsugaike for a three-day snowboarding trip,” was the comment from a snowboarder from Ibaraki, who was the first to arrive at the gondola base station (pictured). From the mid to lower section of the groomed Han-no-ki Slope, the layer of loose granular surface snow gradually became thicker the further I skied down.

I spoke with a digger from TGPARKS who told me, “I always read your reports! We’ve done thorough maintenance, so each element is in great shape. We’ve even spread ammonium sulfate on the landing zones.” Although some dirt was visible on the snow, my skis slid well on the groomed, slushy spring snow surface.

The Tsugaike Central Triple lift (pictured, background) finished for the season yesterday, 4/6 (Sun.), but the Karamatsu Slope (pictured) remains open as long as there’s snow. I ran into a father visiting from Shizuoka Prefecture (pictured, back left), who told me “We always check Snownavi! Since the kids can only ride sleds for now, we’re looping the bit from the gondola mid-station down.” The snow here was noticeably dirty, and as expected, it was a bit difficult to get much glide.
