Tsugaike in April offers the opportunity to ski one of Japan’s longest runs! More specifically, it’s possible to cruise for nearly 12 kilometers by taking the Tsugaike Ropeway up and skiing all the way down to the gondola base station. This morning, I met a skier from Omachi who told me, “I always read your reports. This season, I got a season pass for Tsugaike. The long run is a blast.”

Last night’s rain had cleared up, revealing clear skies and views of the Northern Alps early this morning, before turning overcast by 8 a.m. I had a conversation with a couple from Tokyo (pictured), who commented, “We’ve been skiing at Tsugaike since yesterday. The snow’s fast and easy to ride.” Indeed, the loose granular snow surface on the groomed Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) made for smooth, enjoyable turns.

The Gotemba Course also had a groomed granular snow base that was starting to soften, though my skis didn’t glide as well toward the end of the run. The Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) featured a groomed, slushy granular snow base. The Karamatsu Slope still had plenty of snow, and the groomed base was similarly slushy.

“I always enjoy your reports! I usually ride at 47PARKS, but today I came to TGPARKS (pictured) for a change of pace. This park is a lot of fun, too!” commented a staff member from the Goryu Iimori Slope (pictured). A park digger also shared, “The park here will close on 4/13 (Sun.), and reopen along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair on 4/16 (Wed.).”
