The final round of the NORTH ALPS BANKED SLALOM series, HAPPO BANKED SLALOM (pictured), was held on the far northern end of the Panorama Course. A digger from HACHI CREW, who was in charge of building the special event course, shared, “The first round at Iwatake and the second at Tsugaike were built on relatively gentle slopes, but here at Happo, we created a more challenging course on steeper terrain to match the resort’s characteristics. I hope everyone enjoys it!”

A total of 179 competitors took part in this final round, competing across six categories: Junior (elementary school boys and girls), Legend (men 46+ and women 41+), General (amateur men and women from junior high school and up), Open (mixed pro-am men and women from junior high school and up), and Snowskate (mixed gender). I watched as participants entered the course one after another as the open practice session began at 9:00 a.m. (pictured).

As for the descening routes down to the bottom, the “Kabe” and “Kita” areas of the Nakiyama Slope closed on 4/6 (Sun.), and the “Minami” will close at the end of the day tomorrow, 4/13 (Sun.). The Riesen Quad Lift (pictured) will also end its season tomorrow. However, though the section connecting to the Shirakaba Slope from Riesen is narrow, the snow piled there is thick enough that skiing down should still be possible through next weekend. I met two visitors from Toyama Prefecture who told me, “We always follow your updates! All the ski resorts in Toyama have closed, so this is our first time back at Happo in two weeks.”

This morning on the Riesen Slalom Course, the lower section (third photo) was beneath the clouds, the middle was inside the clouds, and the upper was above them! A stunning sea of clouds could be seen until around 9 a.m. (pictured) from the upper slopes, where the groomed spring corn snow base had a thick surface layer of soft snow. With clear skies and a weekend bring the crowds, a lot of visitors greeted me saying they were fans of Snownavi.
