Shiga REPORT

2025.04.24180 cm / Sunny

The slopes were calm today in the lead up to Golden Week, which may stretch up to 11 days long for some people this year! Yesterday’s rain cleared the air of dust and pollen, giving way to a beautifully clear blue sky. At the Kumanoyu Ski Resort, all courses are scheduled to remain open through 4/27 (Sun.)—the final day of operations for the First Pair Lift (pictured, foreground). *Starting 4/28 (Mon.), only the Second Pair Lift will be in operation.

The Shirakaba Course (pictured), along with the First A Course and Second Beginner Course, had loosely packed, groomed granular spring snow. I met a skier from Osaka (pictured) who told me, “I always follow your reports! Today is my last day of the season. Since I started the season at Kumanoyu, I thought I’d end it here too.”

I also ran into a ski patrol member, who thanked me for my reporting, and added, “The ungroomed Fourth A/Event Course is pretty sticky today, but the groomed courses should offer an enjoyable ride. Just be cautious in the narrow sections.” On the Umanose Course, there was indeed one narrow part in the middle, but the detour course had a solid base of snow.

I had a conversation with a skier from Shiga Prefecture, who I met in the parking lot, and they shared, “I’ll be staying in Shiga Kogen for the next three days and plan to ski every open course at the resorts still in operation.” Incidentally, the final day of operations at the Kumanoyu Ski Resort has been extended from 5/6 (Tue., holiday) to 5/11 (Sun.), though it is subject to change in accordance with snow conditions.
