In the time that has passed since the season opening of the Yokoteyame and Shibutoge Ski Area’s Kaiwa Slope on 11/9 (Sat.), the resort has also begun operation of the Yokoteyama First Sky B Line (12/10) and Yokoteyama Second Sky (12/17) lifts, and opened the Yokoteyama First Slope (pictured) and Second Slope, including the forest “rinkan” area. Tomorrow, 12/23 (Fri.) will see the Yokoteyama Third Sky and Shibutoge Romance lifts added to that list!

Due to strong, intermittent gusts of wind in the early morning hours, the opening of the Second Sky lift was delayed until 9:50. The falling snow transitioned back and forth between fine and large flakes, before eventually turning into sleet. Just a few millimeters of fresh, wet snow covered the firmly-groomed surface of the Kaiwa Slope (pictured).

Over on the Kaiwa Slope’s C Course (pictured), the skiable area was noticeably wider than on the first day of the season. The surface of the groomed Yokoteyama First Slope was hardpacked and topped with a thin layer of new, wet snow, and after a relatively quiet start, the slope began to come to life thanks to an influx of beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders around 9:00. Incidentally, the connecting course to Kumanoyu has yet to open.

The groomed snow at the top of the Yokoteyama Second Slope was well-packed, and from the mid-portion (pictured) onward, there was less than 1cm of new, wet snow atop the firm snow surface. Currently, the Yokoteyama Ski Center’s restaurant “Akari”, located in front of the boarding area for the First Sky lift, is already open, and the Manten View Terrace’s Crumpet Cafe will be open for business tomorrow.
