On 12/24 (Sat.) and 12/25 (Sun.), the 2022-23 NEW MODEL BLASTRACK & OGASAKA SKI TEST RIDE event will take place in front of the Usagidaira Terrace (*test rides start at 9:30 and are free, but ID is required), and the 2023 ID one ski Mid-Season Test Ride event will be held on the Nakiyama Slope (*from 9:00, ¥1,000 in advance or ¥1,500 same-day). The low pressure system that brought rain to the base of the mountain yesterday has since moved off to the northeast and cold temperatures have rapidly returned to the area since last night, bringing snow to the upper portion of the resort.

This morning dry snow was being carried by a strong westerly wind, and I found around 30cm of fresh snow in the areas alongside the Alpen Quad and Kurobishi 3 Pair (pictured), and between 20 to 25 cm on the ungroomed area of the Skyline Course. I enjoyed some great runs on the fluffy powder, despite bottoming out from time to time on the hard, uneven surface below.
[Kurobishi Slope]
The area parallelling the Kurobishi 2 Quad and the central portion of the Skyline Course each had roughly 5 cm of dry, fresh snow resting atop the moderately-firm, groomed snow surface – good conditions for making comfortable, controlled turns in succession. The Kitaone cat track and the Sakka Wave area (pictured) at the bottom of the Olympic Course II had firmly-groomed, wet snow conditions.
[Olympic Course II]
The underlying base of the ungroomed Shirakaba Slope was on he hard side due to the effects of yesterday’s rain and last night’s freeze, but was topped off with about 10 cm of fluffy new snow, and almost completely free of bushes. In a weird way, I was glad to see that the rains yesterday firmed up the base, which should ensure a healthy foundation for the accumulations over the rest of the season. With this being the first time in the last three seasons that entry restrictions for overseas citizens have been eased, I have noticed a large number of international visitors on the slopes.
