Tsugaike REPORT

2022.12.24172cm / Snowy

Following the opening of the Maruyama and Kane-no-no-naru-oka No. 2 slopes on 12/22 (Thurs.), the Shirakaba Slope and Kane-no-naru-oka Slope (pictured) opened today, 12/24 (Sat.). With this development, Tsugaike is now “mostly open,” meaning that more than 50% of the resort’s terrain is open! I spoke with a visitor from Fukui Prefecture (pictured) who told me, “I love your site! It’s nice to run into a Snownavi reporter on my first day of snowboarding! I was worried about the Hokuriku Expressway closing, so I took the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway, then the Chuo Expressway, then the Nagano Expressway to get here.”

Due to strong winds, operation of the was suspended from the mid-station to the summit station, and the Han-no-ki No. 1 Quad and Maruyama No. 1 Quad started late at 8:40, while the Han-no-ki No. 3 Quad kicked off at 9:15. There was around 10 to 15cm of new snow in the groomed areas and 20 to 25cm in the ungroomed areas on the Kane-no-naru-oka and Maruyama (pictured) slopes, and the moderately soft groomed surfaces and light new snow made for pleasant skiing.

The Han-no-ki High Speed Pair Lift and Shirakaba Quad also began operating later than usual this morning. The heavy snow continued falling unabated throughout the morning, and by 9:00, the strong northeasterly winds began to affect not only the upper portion of the resort, but also the middle to lower portions. The moderately soft groomed snow on the Oya-no-hara Slope (pictured) had between 5 and 10 cm of light, fresh snow on it.

Three boarders from Shizuoka Prefecture and Omachi City in Nagano Prefecture (pictured) struck up a conversation with me, first telling me that they were fans of the Snownavi site. They went on to say, “We got a pretty big dump of fresh snow overnight, eh? We’re gonna focus on enjoying all this powder today!” There is now more than enough snow on the Champion Slope, however, the slope’s opening has been postponed until tomorrow because the groomers still haven’t been able to work on the upper portion of the slope.
