Straight out of the gate, the beautiful, smooth slopes covered in fresh snow had my heart racing with anticipation. As the Tsuga No. 2 Pair got moving at 8:30, I overheard people on the lift excitedly talking about how amazing the snow looked and how they almost wanted to dive off into the powder below (pictured). When I got off the lift I took off one of my skis so I could put my fooit in the snow and try to measure how much there was. To my surprise, I found a soft top layer of more than 90cm, burying my leg up to my waist.

I had a quick chat with a skier from Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “Snownavi, I love your site. Today, I left my family behind and came out to ski on my own. The powder is epic.” I ran into him again later on and he told me that he had gone through the TSUGA POW DBD orientation and received his armband. On the groomed parts of Tsuga-no-mori around 5cm of light, fresh snow sat atop the packed powder surface.

I later spoke with a visitor from Matsumoto (pictured), who said, “I always check your site! I bought a season ticket for Tsugaike this year. The snow today is super light and everywhere you go the skiing is great.” On the Han-no-ki Slope, the area alongside the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair Lift had a moderately soft groomed surface, while the lower half of the slope was packed more firmly; but once again the powder snow conditions made for fantastic turns everywhere I went!

The Champion Quad began its first run of the season this morning at 9:30. The moderately-firm surface of the groomed central section had about 10 cm of fresh snow, while the ungroomed areas on both sides had about 40 cm of fluffy fresh accumulation. Here, too, I could hear the excited shouts of people indulging in the deep powder.
