It was a beautiful day for skiing with blue skies and almost no wind. I ran into a family from Tokyo (pictured), who told me, “We love your site. We’re staying at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba from 12/27 (Tue.) to 12/31 (Sat.). Our photograph was featured in one of your reports in 2018, and it was worth getting up early this morning since we were able to run into you again.”

There were perfect packed powder conditions on the Itadaira Course (first photo), which was groomed to the width of four grooming machines, as well as on the widely-groomed Ikenota Slope (pictured), and the Hiedayama Rinkan Course! The snow covering the ungroomed Hiedayama Course 1 was moderately firm with irregular small-sized bumps.

In other news, in addition to standard-quality equipment, the rental shop on the first floor of the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba (open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) also rents high-performance models of both skis and snowboards (pictured). Fees are ¥5,500 yen for boards or skis for the day, or ¥4,000 yen for four hours (*1,500 yen for each additional hour). A staff member told me, “If you want to try out a board or skis for powder skiing or if you’re in the market to buy your own, renting can provide a nice reference.”

The Kids Park, which opens at 9:00 daily, is in very good condition. The tubing area was especially popular, and the excited laughter and shouts of children tubing (pictured, JPY500 yen for 30 minutes) down the slopes filled the air.
