From the very beginning of the day, the resort felt alive with the energy of the New Year holiday period. Around 9:30, there was a 20 to 25-minute wait to board the gondola at the base of the resort and a several-minute wait to get on the Skyliner II Lift, but as on the vast Kane-no-naru-oka Slope (pictured), the wide slopes at Tsugaike helped spread out the crowds, and I was able to ski without any stress.

I spoke with two families from Aichi Prefecture, who said, “We love your site! We were checking out your reports this morning before we came here. We come to Tsugaike every season to ring in the new year.” The groomed Kane-no-naru-oka (1st photo) and Han-no-ki slopes (pictured) were in good condition with moderately firm powder snow surfaces.

A snowboarder from Hyogo Prefecture (pictured) who called out to me from the lift said, “I always check your site. I’m going to join up with my family tomorrow, but I’ve been boarding on my own since yesterday.” By the way, his snowboard is the latest model from THE DAY. HAKUBA: the ‘Hakuba Zanpow Murao’ 158cm.

The weather was a mixed bag, with clouds and light snow at the base, fog in the middle of the resort, and clear skies at the top (pictured). A skier from Azumino City in Nagano Prefecture (pictured) greeted me, saying that they love the Snownavi site. They went on to say that the ungroomed areas were easy to ski today. The Tsuga-no-mori slope had a moderately firm, groomed powder snow surface, while the groomed powder snow surface of the Gotenba Course was slightly softer. I enjoyed the feeling of the fluffy 10cm of fresh snow on the ungroomed parts of Tsuga-no-mori.
