REPORT

The newly constructed Alps No. 11 Pair (1,200m) began operation for the first time at 9:40 a.m. today, 1/7 (Sat.). To use this lift, classified as a mountain sightseeing lift, you are required to submit a mountaineering plan or a liability waiver agreement. After doing so you’ll receive an armband that shows you’ve received permission, and up the mountain you go!

The new lift chairs were comfortable, with plenty of cushion and cold-resistant materials. I spoke with a snowboarder living in Hakuba Village (pictured, left), who told me “I love your site. I was just about to hike up to the backcountry area from the No. 3 High-Speed Pair when I saw that the No. 11 lift was running, so I made a beeline straight here.” Getting off the lift, we were greeted with fluffy, fresh snow that buried us up to our knees.

From the No. 5 High-Speed Pair, which opened at the same time as the No. 11 Pair, I could see that the moguls on the Mogul Course were in great condition. Not long after, I was greeted by a skier from Toyama Prefecture, who said, “I love your site! I am a season ticket holder and often come to practice on the mogul course (pictured, background). The moguls and jumps are always very well maintained.”
[Wakaguri Central]

The Rabbit Course, Wakaguri Central Slope (3rd photo), and Wakaguri Forest Course (pictured) had easy-to-ski, firmly-groomed powder snow surfaces. I ran into a family from Osaka who was taking a private lesson with Hakuba Norikura H・A Snowboard School on the Wakaguri Forest Course.
