Most of us were expecting another big snow season due to the La Niña phenomenon, but for some reason the prefecture just has not received as much snow as everyone was hoping for. Yet, in spite of that, Happo fully opened its terrain early on (12/21), and continues to remain that way today. I was greeted by a group of 4 visitors (pictured) from Osaka, Aichi, Matsumoto, and Azumino, who told me, “We love your site! We all met up here to ski Happo together.”

This morning the weather was mild with the sun occasionally shining through the clouds. Conditions were great alongside the Kurobishi 2 Quad (pictured) and the southern aspect of Usagidaira (third photo), with firmly-groomed powder snow surfaces! Because today was the middle day of a 3-day weekend, visitors hit the slopes early and the snow was tracked out in no time, but still remained easy to ski.

A father and son from Osaka Prefeture, called out to me, with the son (pictured, right) saying, “We love Snownavi Please take our picture!” Firm, medium to large sized moguls could be seen on the ungroomed area paralleling the Alpen Quad, and harpacked tracks and bumps were also formed on the ungroomed portion alongside the Kurobishi 3 Pair. The Skyline Course had a moderately firm, groomed powder snow surface, while the Kitaone Traverse Cat Track was groomed with well-packed wet snow. The Sakka Slope and Sakka Wave (pictured), at the bottom of the Olypic Course II, also featured wet snow surfaces, though slightly softer. Those courses made for some fun, speedy runs, as did the other groomed areas across the resort.
