Whenever skies are clear, I always make it a point to head to HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR (pictured). This morning on the deck, people could be seen taking pictures while admiring the incredible view spreading out before them. The sweet aroma of cookies baked at THE CITY BAKERY (open from 9:00 to 15:30) completed the magical morning atmosphere.

The South Slope (pictured) and East Slope were in fantastic groomed condition, with moderately firm powder snow surfaces! I spoke briefly with a snowboarder from Nagano’s Matsumoto City, who told me, “I love your site. I’ve been coming to Iwatake for 30 years now. I have to work in the afternoon, so I’ll just enjoy the good stuff in the morning and then head home.”

On the super-wide South Slope, I was able to link together some long, wide sweeping turns. On the East Slope, I spoke with a skier from Shizuoka Prefecture who said, “I quit skiing around the time of the Nagano Olympics, but when my niece started snowboarding, I decided to get back into it. That’s when I found and purchased Advance Discount Lift Tickets on the Snownavi site.”

VIEW C (pictured), VIEW D, and all the other groomed slopes on the Mountain Side of the resort had similarly good conditions, with moderately firm, powder snow surfaces that were easy to ski. The Sunny Valley Course was groomed with packed powder snow at the beginning and hardpacked, wet groomed snow from the middle to the end of the course. My edges bit well from top to bottom, and I was able to ski comfortably and under control all the way to the gondola base station.
