Sanosaka REPORT

2023.01.11110cm / Sunny

Early this morning, I spoke with a snowboarder from Matsumoto (pictured), who told me, “I’m a season pass holder for Tsugaike, but I decided to come and try out Hakuba Sanosaka today. The weather and snow quality are excellent!” The base is now officially over 100cm and even the area on the New Paradise Slope (pictured background, closed for the season), where the brush was not cut back before the start of the season, is now almost unnoticeable.

I had a conversation with a ski patroller who mentioned that the 20 to 25 cm of fresh snow that fell yesterday and the day before was a little heavy, but today the dry, powdery snow on the groomers was very good. And he was right… just have a look at the high level of maintenance on this delectable groomed slope! All three of the currently open course(s) had firmly-packed powder snow surfaces that made me feel like I had suddenly become a better skier.

I caught up with a couple from Nagano City (pictured), who told me that they love the Snownavi site. They man went on to mention, “I usually go to Tsugaike, but since it was my girlfriend’s second time snowboarding, we decided to come to Hakuba Sanosaka. I was going to instruct and support her, but the groomed slope were in surprisingly excellent condition, so I ended up leaving her on her own and boarding alone.”

In other news, Sanosaka’s 2nd Quad Lift will be closed on Thursdays starting on 1/16 (Mon.). Today, the private, old mogul course (pictured), was being set up for training by members of the JSC Hakuba Sanosaka Racing Center. Later on, around 9:30 a.m., the snow surface began to soften up in the strong sunshine, but was still very easy to ski.
