REPORT

Temperatures were quite warm both yesterday and today, and this morning thick fog covered the middle to upper portion of the ski resort, with light drizzle falling. The surface of the groomed Riesen Slalom Course (pictured) was composed of hard, wet groomed snow that became looser and looser as I skied down. The snow was basically slush by the time I reached the Usuba Slope at the bottom.

The Panorama Course (pictured), was in similar condition to Riesen, with a hard, groomed wet snow surface. My skis actually slid well on the snow, but due to the thick fog, many skiers seemed to be mindful of their speed. On the lower part of the mountain, the snow has been melting over the past few days, and there were areas where the snow cover was noticeably thin on the Sakka and Shirakaba slopes.

When I headed back up after skiing Riesen and Panorama, the Alpen Quad (pictured) was still not running… Apparently, inspection / maintenance was delayed due to frozen cables and pulleys. (The lift eventually began operation at 9:25). I headed down toward the Kitaone Quad and emerged below the fog around the Sakibana Wave, on the lower part of the Olympic Course II.

At the pre-opening of HAPPO PARKS yesterday, 1/14 (Sat.), a local snowboarder from Hakuba Village told me, “I love your site. I came here to check out HAPPO PARKS, but the visibility is not very good.” Currently, the park items are: an 8m kicker, 5m kicker, 2m kicker, 4 goofy banks, 2 spines, 3 rollers, and a wave section.
