Tsugaike REPORT

This weekend, 1/14 (Sat.) and 1/15 (Sun.), a two-day event was held at Tsugaike, where people gathered together to show off their skis and boards designed with artwork featuring anime and game characters. I spoke with a staff member from JIBA, the organizing body, who said, “It didn’t rain during the event yesterday, and luckily it looks like it will be fine again today. Also, the Marion Shinano and Sunplaza Tsugaike hotels where we stayed last night were very comfortable.”

Because the upper portion of the ski resort was enveloped in thick fog, and also since it was a Kids Ski Free Day, the fog-free Maruyama and Kane-no-no-naru-oka slopes on the lower half of the mountain were quite busy, especially with families. Amidst all this, I saw cosplayers participating in the event mentioned above here and there, and many of them told me that they love the Snownavi site.

There was a snowball fight featuring cosplayers dressed as characters from the anime Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) that started at 10:00 a.m., and it was a big hit! The demon-slaying squad, competing together with princess Elsa from “Frozen” tried to defend the pink Tyrannosaurus from a fierce attack launched by some children, but they were defeated, drawing laughter from the crowd.

The area alongside the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair Lift first thing this morning had well-packed, fine-grained granular snow surface that softened up past the middle part of Han-no-ki, but both were easy to ski. On the upper portion of Han-no Ki, I spoke with a season ticket holder from Nagano City, who said, “Hardpacked slopes like this are also good for kids to practice.” However, when I ran into him again on the lower part of Han-no-ki, he said, “Actually, the snow down here is softer and easier to ski.”
