Early this morning there were flurries of snow mixed with occasional blue skies, but by 9:30, snow clouds covered the sky above the resort, and dry snow began to fall lightly. Both the southern route of Usagidaira (pictured) and the area along the Kurobishi 2 Quad were groomed and featured hard, wet snow surfaces. My edges gripped and held the snow well, and I was able to get some good speed as a result.

HAPPO PARKS (NATURES), which had its pre-opening on 1/14 (Sat.), is a surf ride park built by “THE PARKS TEAM,” which operates some of the best snow parks in Japan such as 47 PARKS and TG PARKS. The park predominantly features banks and waves, and each item is extremely well maintained! The items, likes the slopes themselves, were in good, firm shape.

Soon after the park opened at 9:00 a.m., high-level skiers and boarders were showing off with impressive jumps from the 8-meter kicker (pictured). Any number of lines can be taken through the park, so even beginner to intermediate skiers can enjoy themselves here. Thanks to the re-opening of the Kitaone 3 Pair Lift (465m), it’s easy to do repeat laps of the park.

The Skyline Course and Kitaone Traverse Cat Track both had very firm, groomed surfaces composed of wet snow. The ungroomed Shirakaba Slope featured hardpacked bumps and uneven spots, and there were occasional areas with exposed bushes and ground. In other news, applications for the “Chanmero Free Ride” event to be held at Omusubi on 2/5 (Sun.), are now being accepted until the 1/27 (Fri.) deadline!
