Today I chatted with a father from Osaka, who commented, “It snowed quite a bit. Today is my son’s first day snowboarding.” At that, his son (pictured) responded, “I’m looking forward to snowboarding!”, although he had a slightly nervous look on his face. During the morning, dense snow was falling silently on the slopes.

The head of the Cortina Ski School, who was with me in the long line for the No. 2 Quad before the opening of business, told me, “We offer free one-point lessons for beginners every morning from 9:00 to 9:30. It’s a great service that you should definitely take advantage of. We are also looking for staff!” The Ikenota Slope (pictured) was groomed with a moderately firm, powder snow surface, and it felt great to surf through the approximately 10 cm of fresh snow that topped things off.

By the way, I know I’m a little late bringing it up, but the main focus this morning was, of course, the powder! There was between 20 and 30 cm of fresh snow accumulated on the Hiedayama Course 1 (pictured), and I enjoyed the feeling of floating on powder, even as I occasionally bottomed out on the hard, uneven surface at the bottom. Myself and the others around me couldn’t help but exclaim how great the new snow felt.

Even on the Itadaira Course (pictured) there was about 20 cm of fluffy new snow, but here too, my skis made a crunching sound each time I hit the hard and uneven underlying surface. Since it was the weekend, the ungroomed steep slopes accessed from the No. 10 Pair Lift were tracked out pretty quickly, and a line began to form early for the No. 5 Pair, which began operating at 10:00 a.m.
