As I arrived this morning, the light rain that had been falling before the opening of the resort had almost stopped, and fog was rolling in and out over the slopes. A snowboarder from Nagano’s Matsumoto City (pictured) called out to me and said, “I love your site. I always check it for the latest slope conditions. It’s very helpful! I bought a season ticket for Hakunori, so this year it’s my home resort.”

I had a conversation with another group of snowboarders, with one of them telling me, “I’m a fan of the Snownavi site! We’re a family from Osaka, and these are friends we met here at Hakunori. Yesterday, my daughter (pictured), a first-year junior high school student, passed the JSBA’s Level 2 snowboarding test!” The groomed Highway, Kamoshika, Wakaguri Central, and Wakaguri Forest Courses were all in good condition with moderately soft wet snow.

Later on, a brother and sister from Shizuoka Prefecture approached me, with the brother saying, “We love Snowavi! Today we’re having fun with the spring-like snow conditions. My sister came to try out her new board.” In other news, today was a Kids Ski Free Day, and lift tickets for elementary school students were free of charge. (*Preschoolers are always free.)

Beginning last season, there is now a sauna available for day use in the Hakunori area: the AIONA SAUNA. It uses a large wood-burning stove from Nagano Prefecture, and this “löyly” style sauna allows customers to pour water over the heated stones to produce their desired temperature and humidity. (*Reservations required, 2.5 hours per group, closed on Mondays.)
