Hazy clouds over the Northern Alps indicated windy conditions at higher elevations this morning. On the South Slope (pictured), East Slope, and the top to mid portion of the Sunny Valley Course, there was about 3 cm of light new snow on top of the moderately fir, groomed powder snow surfaces. On the other hand, the last part of the Sunny Valley Course (the old Paradise Course) had a hard packed groomed surface infused with a mix of artificial snow.

Today I headed over to FIVE SIDE (pictured) along the 5Sen South Lift in search of the fresh snow that had accumulated from yesterday morning to this morning. Ultimately, the 30 to 40 cm of new snow was slightly heavy, probably because the temperature was a little high yesterday afternoon, but I definitely still enjoyed it. I really wasn’t able to feel the wind on the Village Side, nor on the Mountain Side.

I chatted with a snowboarder from Osaka who told me, “I love your site! This is my first visit to Iwatake in several years. I’m so lucky that there was so much snowfall the night before I came out.” Once FIVE SIDE got tracked out, a long line began to form at the entrance of VIEW.

VIEW opened up at 9:15 a.m., and I saw many skiers cheering excitedly as they slid into the steep, ungroomed VIEW A and VIEW B slopes, with 30 to 40 cm of fresh snow. VIEW C (pictured) was groomed with a moderately firm powder snow surface topped with 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow and was very comfortable for skiing.
