I crossed paths wtih a couple from Niigata Prefecture (pictured), who pointed out, “Oh, we met you at Happo yesterday.” They also told me that they buy advance discount lift tickets through Snownavi every year, and that they came out to enjoy some famous “Madapow.” It’s the dream of every Snownavi reporter to report on the slope conditions at meet people at resorts all across Japan!
[Paradise]
With the snow falling lightly, the line waiting for the No. 13 Pair Lift to open began to form around 8:40 a.m., and had grown to around 300 meters in length by 9:00 (pictured). I spoke with a skier from Nakano City, who told me, “We’ll need to be careful with this poor visibility. The tree area might be better than the groomers.” In fact, the fog was even thicker on the upper portion of the ski resort, with everyeting completely washed in white.
[Crystal]
There was around 15 to 20cm of fresh, fluffy snow on the ungroomed Crystal Course, but I overheard people exclaiming that they couldn’t see anything and didn’t know where they were going. I bottomed out frequently on the underlying base, but still enjoyed the feeling of the soft powder!
[Crystal]
Once the fog thinned out, conditions were perfect from the middle to the end of Crystal, with a few centimeters of dry snow on top of a moderately firm, groomed powder surface. In other news, the “Free Ride Park” on the lower part of the Crystal Course currently has 6 elements: a 3-meter table, a 4-meter kicker, a 4-meter PVC pipe, a 6-meter down rail, a mound, and a hip jump. While I was watching, I observed an advanced-level rider launching an air trick off of the hip jump.
